Using data from the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources, this brief finds that Between Academic Years 2009-10 and 2010-11, social science faculty members lost purchasing power because faculty salary increases did not surpass the rate of inflation. Across four social science disciplines at both public and private institutions, faculty experienced salary decreases in constant dollars, with losses being greater at public institutions.
