The purpose of this community is to draw clinical sociologists together to form a network and encourage collaborative activities by encouraging more clinical sociologists to join ASA; help clinical sociologists in other countries see that ASA is an important place to share their work as well as network; and encourage junior sociologists in the U.S. to learn about the possibilities in the field. We also want to encourage national and national-international program development. Clinical sociology probably has its largest presence now in France. There clinical sociology is seen as having a close connection between sociology and psychology and there is a strong interest in the area of organizational analysis. Practice is not mentioned. The French group also have strong connections with clinical sociology initiatives in Spain, Brazil and Mexico. In Japan, clinical sociology has strong connections to research in the health field. In the US, clinical sociology is concerned with analysis in many (if not all) areas of sociology and also may be concerned with policy advice and intervention. Clinical sociology now has a strong presence in many countries (e.g., French-speaking Canada, Spain, Brazil, South Africa, Columbia, Uruguay).
