Margaret (Gough) Courtney, PhD, is Director of Programs and Research at the American Sociological Association. Courtney is an accomplished researcher and teacher. Prior to joining ASA, Courtney was a Social Science Analyst at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and an Associate Professor of Sociology with tenure. She holds a BA in Social Welfare and Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley, along with a PhD and MA in Sociology, and an MA in Statistics, from the University of Michigan, where she was a trainee at the Population Studies Center. She completed an ASA/NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship at Harvard University and was part of the inaugural cohort of scholars in the Michigan Integrative Well-Being and Inequality (MIWI) Training Program.
