University of Kentucky. Deadline Extended. The Department of Sociology invites applications for a Lecturer who will teach primarily upper-division undergraduate courses in the areas of crime/law/deviance and methodology. Depending on the successful candidate's interests, teaching in other areas may be possible. This is a non-tenure-track faculty appointment on a renewable one-year contract. The position will be funded for a three-year period (August 2005-May 2008) with a possibility of extended funding. The position carries full staff benefits. Kenyon College. The Department of Sociology at Kenyon College seeks applicants for a one-year visiting position in sociology at the rank of visiting assistant professor, beginning in July, 2005. Renewal for a second year may be possible. A PhD in sociology and some teaching experience are expected along with a demonstrated commitment to teaching talented undergraduates and to active research. The character of the position remains open, but we are particularly interested in candidates who can teach courses in several of the following areas: education, social organization, race, gender, culture, classical theory, environmental sociology, and demography. Lingnan University, the only liberal arts institution in Hong Kong, invites applications for the post of Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in the Department of Politics and Sociology (Post Ref.: 04/133/ASA). The Department is a joint one, which combines teaching and research in political science, sociology and areas of social policy and social psychology. It contributes with the Department of Economics to the integrated Social Sciences Programme in the University. The appointee should have a PhD degree in a pertinent discipline and be an active researcher. A good publication record (relative to the candidate's career stage), and interdisciplinary experience in political science and sociology, are required. The appointee should also be able to teach at the interface of political science and sociology. Areas of teaching specialization are open. However, the willingness to be flexible in undergraduate teaching is essential. The ability to contribute to introductory courses in research methods and statistics in the social sciences will be an advantage. Michigan State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position, beginning Fall 2005, to direct the Program for Global Urban Studies in the College of Social Science (PRGUS). PRGUS is a new multi-disciplinary graduate program designed to further research and teaching in the comparative and transnational aspects of urbanization. The rank is at either the Associate or Full Professor levels and the tenure home will be located in a relevant academic department. Candidates should have a PhD in a traditional discipline such as but not restricted to Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Geography, Sociology, Economics, or Political Science. University of New Mexico, Director, Office for Policy, Security, and Technology. The University of New Mexico, College of Arts and Sciences is seeking an experienced individual to assume the directorship of the Office for Policy Security, and Technology (OPST). This office was established in 2003 through a collaborative effort of Sandia National Laboratories and UNM and funded by a five-year grant from the Lockheed Martin Corporation. The goal of OPST is to conduct research in public policy areas where security and technology are interrelated ranging from national security issues such as deterrence and terrorism, to areas like energy and environment. The approach to research is through multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional teams, and the strategic plan is to seek additional support through grants and appropriate contracts. The Director will have considerable opportunity to shape and expand the OPST mission and approach within the broad context of institutional collaboration on security policy research. Many pressing national issues involve a complex mixture of technical and policy considerations. Formulation of effective public policy on these issues would be helped by a broader research base that draws from understanding of both technical and social sciences. New Mexico has an exceptional base including three research universities and two major national laboratories. OPST's mission is to draw this technical strength together with social scientists to address existing and future policy options. The Director of OPST is responsible for providing leadership to realize this vision.
