Positions in Academic Settings (A - G)

University of Alabama-Birmingham. The Department of Sociology invites applications for a tenure-track position, rank open, to begin August 1, 2005 for teaching and research interests in health and/or medical sociology. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Sociology and have a record of publication, grant support, and teaching commensurate with rank. Duties include teaching four (4) courses per nine-month academic year at graduate and undergraduate levels. The candidate will be expected to mount an independent research agenda. Appointment at Associate or Full Professor rank requires seeking funded research, with a portion of salary to be derived from extramural grants in collaboration with interdisciplinary campus research centers. Salary is commensurate with rank and experience. UAB is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research Extensive institution with an undergraduate population of 10,900 and a graduate/professional student population of 5,200. UAB's Medical School is in the top 25 in the U.S. The Department of Sociology houses the Center for Social Medicine and Sexually-Transmitted Diseases and is affiliated with the Lister Hill Center for Health Policy, the Center for Aging, the Center for the Advancement of Youth Health, and the UAB Minority Health and Research Center, and others. The Department of Sociology offers BA degrees in Sociology and Social Psychology, the MA in Sociology, and the PhD in Medical Sociology. University at Albany/SUNY. The School of Criminal Justice invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor to begin Fall 2005. Candidates for this position should be able to contribute to the development of the School's Information Technology (IT) concentration, as well as to the University-wide IT initiative. A PhD in criminal justice or a related discipline is required, and candidates must have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and research. Faculty candidates are expected to have the demonstrated ability to work with and/or instruct diverse groups of people. The School of Criminal Justice has an internationally renowned doctoral program, offers a comprehensive MA program, and provides a select group of undergraduates the opportunity to earn the BA in criminal justice. The IT curriculum allows PhD and MA students to complete a concentration that includes courses in data utilization, information management, geographic information systems, and spatial analysis. The successful candidate will join existing faculty in the IT curriculum in Criminal Justice and could develop new offerings reflecting other interests in the area. Teaching and research areas in the regular criminal justice curriculum are open. The University at Albany is one of the four University Centers of the State University of New York. American University in Cairo. The Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology and Egyptology Department seeks a sociologist. The candidate must have a strong background in forced migration, refugee studies, and resettlement issues and will be teaching courses in the Forced Migration and Refugee Studies graduate diploma program. The Successful candidate will also teach undergraduate sociology courses, such as introductory sociology courses, as well as courses in the candidate's areas of expertise. A specialization in one or more of the following areas is preferred: social psychology, gender, stratification, criminology, media, technology, medical sociology or social movements. California Lutheran University. The Department of Criminal Justice invites applications for a nine-month full-time tenure track Criminal Justice faculty position at the rank of assistant professor to begin August 30, 2005. The candidate is expected to teach three courses a semester, with the possibility of summer teaching. The Search Committee seeks a criminal justice generalist who can teach in such areas as policing, corrections, drugs and crime, criminology, race and gender issues in justice, statistics and research methods. The candidate will also assist in supervising the internship program and program development. The candidate must possess a PhD in Criminal Justice, Criminology or closely related field (a JD is not an acceptable degree for the position). ABD's completing their degree by June 2005 are also encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with prior college-level teaching with diverse student populations. California State University-Chico. The Department of Sociology seeks a full-time temporary lecturer position effective 2005-06 with expertise in ethnicity, race, population, or related fields. One-year appointment, possibly renewable up to three years contingent upon programmatic need and budget. The teaching assignment will include some combination of the following classes: Principles of Sociology, Introduction to Asian-American Studies, Global Ethnic Issues, Ethnic and Race Relations, Social Statistics, Sociological Methods, Social Theory, or Population. The approach in all courses taught should reflect an interest in the diverse background of students from California. Actual teaching assignment will be based on the background of the individual and the needs of the department. Minimum Qualifications: A PhD in sociology or closely related interdisciplinary program. College of Staten Island/City University of New York. The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work of the College of Staten Island, a senior college of the City University of New York, invites applications for an anticipated tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Sociology, to start September 2005. We seek a Latin Americanist with a focus on political sociology and social movements, specifically transnational movements of gender and sexuality. Required: PhD in Sociology or related field. Geographic expertise in Mexico, Central America, or South America and fieldwork experience preferred. Expertise in ethnographic and comparative-historical methods desirable. University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. The Department of Sociology invites applications for a tenure-track, joint-appointment with either Ethnic Studies or Women's Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor (contingent upon final budgetary approval). We seek candidates with research and teaching specialization in race and gender, and prepared to teach core sociology classes in research methods and/or theory at the graduate and undergraduate level. University of Connecticut, Assistant Professor of Sociology in Residence: Sociology of Health. The University announces a newly authorized position in the Department of Sociology in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences on its main campus in Storrs. Appointment to this position will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor in Residence for two years, renewable under present funding arrangements for up to five years if achievement warrants. Eventual conversion to a tenure-track position may be considered should funding and need permit. The position carries an annual 2/2 teaching load, with some graduate seminars likely. Applicants are expected to hold a PhD in Sociology at time of appointment, and present a strong teaching record, evidence of a research program, experience in advanced research methods, and likely indications of securing future external funding. University of Denver. Professor, Graduate School of International Studies. The Graduate School of International Studies is seeking to hire a senior specialist in international and comparative political economy and public policy in advanced or developing countries. The Department of Sociology seeks PhD applicants for an Assistant Professor position with expertise in the social and behavioral aspects of health beginning August 2005.
