- University of North
Carolina-Charlotte. Applications are invited for a
tenure-track Assistant Professor position in an interdisciplinary
Latin American Studies program to begin August 1, 1999. The
successful candidate will have research and teaching interests in
the area of 20th century economic development, demonstrated
research competence, and a strong interest in helping to develop
an undergraduate curriculum in Latin American studies. Candidates
are being sought from the disciplines of Geography, History,
Political Science, and Sociology. The selected candidate will

- University of North
Carolina-Greensboro invites applications for an anticipated
full-time, tenure track PhD sociologist (assistant professor),
beginning Fall Semester 1999. Primary interests should be in the
areas of deviance including international/cross-cultural
deviance, criminology, delinquency, or social justice. The
successful candidate should have strong applied quantitative
research skills and be able to teach courses in data analysis and
global society. Other interests in combination with some of these
areas are also invited. Significant contributions to the
development of specialties in deviance, crime, law, and justice
at undergraduate and graduate levels are expected in a very
active department of sociologists. Responsibilities include
undergraduate and graduate teaching, active engagement in
external funding for research, and service related to the mission

- North Carolina State
University. The Department of Sociology and Anthropology
invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the assistant
professor level for a Fall 1999 appointment. A PhD in sociology
with specialization in crime and social control is required. The
undergraduate and graduate programs in crime and social control
are embedded in a sociology curriculum that stresses development
in the core areas of sociological theory and analysis.
Responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate teaching,
active engagement in research, and service. Candidates must show
clear promise of outstanding teaching and scholarship. ABDs with
expected completion of degree by July 1, 1999 will be considered.

University-Columbus. The Department of Sociology invites
applications for several positions beginning Autumn 1999. The
rank is open. The position is tenure-track or will carry tenure,
depending on rank. We expect to have up to four positions
available. We are seeking scholars who will increase the strength
of our four major program emphases: comparative social change;
crime and community; gender, race, work and inequality; and
population, health, and the life-course. We are seeking
candidates who will maintain vigorous research programs, actively
seek external funding, contribute to both graduate and
undergraduate teaching, and provide service to the department and

University. The Department of Labor Studies and Industrial
Relations invites applications to fill one to two tenure-track
assistant professor positions starting Fall 1999. Preference will
be given to candidates with experience beyond the terminal
degree. The Department has an undergraduate program with
approximately 200 majors and a small but growing masters
program. Applicants must have a PhD in economics, human
resources, industrial relations, organizational behavior,
psychology, or sociology. Interest and ability to teach basic
statistics at the graduate level will be expected for one
position. Preferred interests include: (1) employee involvement
and training; (2) compensation and benefits; and (3) comparative
industrial/work relations. Research related to work and family is

Demography. This full professor position carries with it a

deviance/criminology. We would also especially welcome a

American Studies and who could occasionally teach quantitative
