- Association of American
Medical Colleges. Senior Research
Associate/Director of Research. The Section for Institutional and
Faculty Studies of the Association of American Medical Colleges
(AAMC) is looking to fill the position of Senior Research
Associate/Director of Research. The AAMC is a nonprofit
association that represents the 125 accredited U.S. medical
schools, the 16 accredited Canadian medical schools, more than
400 major teaching hospitals, 86 academic and professional
societies, and the nations 67,000 medical students and
103,000 residents. Qualifications include a PhD degree in a
social science discipline, including training in the techniques
of survey research, sampling theory, statistical analyses, and
data presentation. At least 10 years of experience in planning
and executing policy-related studies, statistical analyses, and
data reporting in areas related to trends in faculty demographics
and bio-medical science workforce, and/or medical school
organization, structure, and finances are required. We anticipate
that the candidate chosen will have significant expertise in the
use of computer systems and statistical programs and databases,
including Access, Lotus, Excel, SAS, SPSS, and data graphing and
data presentation software. A familiarity with Unix and Informix
would also be helpful. Responsibilities of the position are to
plan and conduct studies of trends in faculty characteristics and
the biomedical and health sciences research workforce using data
from the AAMCs Faculty Roster System, and the studies of
medical school finances and other institutional characteristics
using data from the AAMCs Institutional Profile System. The
candidate hired may also be called upon to conduct studies to
enhance the managerial effectiveness and efficiency of medical
schools, including projects that relate to institutional and
departmental sizing of faculty and staff, faculty productivity,

Resources Studies position. SRS manages statistical surveys and
other information collections that provide data and analyses
about the nations science, engineering, and technology
enterprise. Appointment to this Federal Senior Executive Service
position will be on a career or limited term basis, with
$106,412-$116,495 salary range. PhD or equivalent experience in

- The Office of the
Illinois Attorney General, Gang Crime Prevention Center,
invites applications for two researcher positions. The
Researchers report directly to the Director of Research and
Information Services and are responsible for the following:
designing and conducting original empirical research to inform
the policy-making and program development process on matters
pertaining to gangs and juvenile delinquency; responding to
research and information requests from the public and other
government agencies; and assisting the Director of Research in
designing and implementing in-house evaluation research on all
Gang Crime Prevention Center initiatives, including pilot
programs, community mobilization projects, and constituent
services. The qualified candidate will possess at least a
Masters degree, a significant interest in the substantive
area of gang crime and delinquency, a strong aptitude for
qualitative and/or quantitative analysis, and outstanding written

- The Public Policy
Institute of California (PPIC), a private, nonprofit research
organization dedicated to independent, nonpartisan research on
economic, social, and political issues that affect the lives of
Californians, is seeking regular full-time Research Fellows to
join our multi-disciplinary team on July 1, 1999. Research Fellow
(Race and Ethnicity): Applications are invited from new or recent
PhDs in political science, public policy, social psychology,
sociology and related fields. We seek candidates whose research
are in the areas of race and ethnicity and public policy, with
interests in substantive issues such as civic participation,
criminal justice, education, employment, housing, immigration,
political behavior, poverty, public opinion, voting and welfare.
Candidates must have solid academic training in theory and
research methodology in their discipline and a strong interest in
public policy. Experience in research on state and local policy
issues is desirable, since PPIC conducts California-focused,
policy-related empirical research; Research Fellow (Education):

political science, public policy, education, sociology and

- St. Francis Health
System, Division of Psychiatric and Addiction Services
(DPAS). Senior Researcher. This Pittsburgh not for profit health
system houses one of the most prestigious research and evaluation
programs in Western Pennsylvania. The ideal candidate will
develop and facilitate all research efforts within DPAS, under
the supervision of the Research Director. Specific duties include
conducting approved research/evaluation efforts, grant
preparation, preparation of reports, papers, and other written
mechanisms of information transmittal, public presentations,
facilitating the mechanism of approving research with DPAS,
facilitating ongoing approved research efforts, setting program
standards for grant preparation and providing scientific
information to support marketing and ongoing program evaluation.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a social science, or
related field, with a minimum of five years experience in a
relevant research field. Preferred qualifications include a
combination of the following: (1) must have at least two RO1
grants in the past five years; (2) established Researcher in one
or more of the fields of substance abuse or mental health
treatment, health services, or prevention research; (3)
established track record of extramural funding; (4) is positioned
to submit, or may already have submitted and NIH-center grant;
(5) has a sustained record of peer-reviewed publications in a
