    The section presents the Ibn Khaldun Distinguished Career Award every year in order to recognize a lifetime of outstanding contributions to the subfield of comparative-historical sociology. This is one of the most celebrated awards given by the section, and it is presented only to scholars of the utmost distinction.

    Call for Submissions: Courses 

    Submissions will open November 1, 2019. The submission deadline is Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern). 

    ASA invites members to propose a course for the 2020 Annual Meeting in San Francisco. Courses will be held on Friday, August 7, 2020, the day before the first full day of sessions at the Annual Meeting.

    Call for Submissions: Workshops 

    Submissions will open November 1, 2019. The submission deadline is Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern). 

    ASA invites members to propose workshops for the 2020 Annual Meeting. There are four types of workshops: (1) Departmental Leadership and Management; (2) Professional Development; (3) Research and Policy; and (4) Teaching. Workshops are scheduled throughout the four days of the Annual Meeting.

    Robert Hauser & William Julius Wilson Career Awards

    The Hauser award is awarded annually to mark and celebrate the field’s most fundamental accomplishments. The Wilson award is awarded annually to recognize a scholar who has made major contributions early in his/her career. Persons who received their highest degree within the previous ten years (i.e. 2010-present) shall be eligible to receive the Wilson award.

    Dear Secretary Ross:

    I write today on behalf of the 12,000 members of the American Sociological Association, the nation’s largest professional association for teachers, scholars, and practitioners of sociology, to express deep concern about a request Ron Jarmin recently received from the Department of Justice to include a citizenship question on the 2020 Census. We strongly urge you to reject this proposal.
