Article I. Name
The Section shall be known as the Section on Racial and Ethnic Minorities (SREM).
Article II. Purpose
Fellowships and Institutes
The purpose of the Section on Racial and Ethnic Minorities is to encourage research, theory, and teaching concerning the relation between socially defined racial and ethnic groups. The encouragement of scholarship contributing to the welfare of all, rather than the promotion of any particular group's social or political interests, is a paramount goal of the Section.
The official journal of ASA's Section on Racial and Ethnic Minorities, Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, publishes the highest quality, cutting-edge sociological research on race and ethnicity with a variety of epistemological, methodological, and theoretical orientations. While the study of race and ethnicity has derived from a broad and deep tradition of interdisciplinary work, sociology has often been at the forefront of scholarly understanding of the dynamics of race and ethnicity.
