    Call for Submissions: Ideas for Future Research Roundtables (formerly Informal Discussion Roundtables)

    No formal papers are presented at the Ideas for Future Research Roundtable session. These are primarily networking roundtables valuable to those who are developing a new set of ideas or formulating issues and who would like to have these explored further by colleagues with similar interests.

    Open Refereed Roundtables

    Paper submissions for Open Refereed Roundtables must meet the same submission criteria as for Regular Sessions. The Open Refereed Roundtables format organizes paper at a table by a general topic identified for each table. A table presider coordinates presentations and discussions. Submissions on all topics are welcome.

  5. Theme

    Each year, ASA’s president chooses a theme on which to focus some of the programming for the ASA Annual Meeting—a tradition that ensures our meetings reflect the rich diversity of perspectives and subject matter in our discipline. 2021 ASA President-Elect Aldon Morris has chosen the theme “Emancipatory Sociology: Rising to the Du Boisian Challenge.” His conception of the theme is below. 

  6. Program Committee

    Each Program Committee plans one Annual Meeting. The committee is constituted in August two years in advance of the meeting for which it is responsible, and is charged with developing a timely program that will service the diverse discipline of sociology, enhance the meeting theme chosen by the President-Elect, and broaden participation by sociologists in the United States and around the world.

    Call for Submissions: Workshops 

    Submissions will open November 1, 2019. The submission deadline is Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern). 

    ASA invites members to propose workshops for the 2020 Annual Meeting. There are four types of workshops: (1) Departmental Leadership and Management; (2) Professional Development; (3) Research and Policy; and (4) Teaching. Workshops are scheduled throughout the four days of the Annual Meeting.
