  1. 2019 Department Leaders Preconference

    Social Science and Social Justice: Navigating Tensions and Exploring Opportunities

    Sociologists have been debating the tensions between social science and social justice since our discipline was founded. These tensions have only heightened in a political climate where even scientific knowledge is viewed through a partisan lens. Building on last year's theme on free speech and academic freedom, the 2019 preconference will consider how sociology departments can navigate this rocky political, educational, and intellectual terrain. 

  2. Preconferences

    All Preconferences are held on Friday, August 9. Registration is required and seats are limited. If you have already registered for the Annual Meeting and would like to add a course, return to the ASA membership portal, log in, and select 2019 Annual Meeting Registration in the Annual Meeting section.

    Registration for child care services is open. The deadline to register for child care services is July 10, 2019.

    The ASA Career Center will once again host the Annual Meeting Employment Fair as well as the popular Prep Talks series.

    Prep Talks

    This year we are excited to expand on the Prep Talk series. Prep Talks are short dynamic presentations on an array of topics that will be helpful to job seekers at all stages of their career search. The presentations are scheduled for Saturday, August 10 in conjunction with the Employment Fair. Your meeting badge will be required to enter.

  7. 2020 Annual Meeting Theme

    Each year, ASA’s president chooses a theme on which to focus some of the programming for the ASA Annual Meeting—a tradition that ensures our meetings reflect the rich diversity of perspectives and subject matter in our discipline.  2020 ASA President Christine Williams chose the theme “Power, Inequality, and Resistance at Work.” Her conception of the theme is below.

  8. 2020 Call for Session Organizer Volunteers

    Call for Volunteers

    The 2020 Program Committee is seeking volunteers to organize sessions for the open submission regular session paper topics. Volunteers will be taken beginning January 31, 2019. The deadline to volunteer is March 15, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. Volunteering does not guarantee an invitation to organize. Anyone volunteering to organize an open submission regular session must abide by the guidelines governing such work and meet the eligibility requirements.
