Applications are invited for the editorships of Contexts magazine, the ASA Rose Series in Sociology, and Social Psychology Quarterly.
The official terms for the new editors (or co-editors) will commence in January 2018 (the editorial transition will be in summer 2017) and is for a minimum of three years (until December 2020), with a possible reappointment of up to an additional two years. ASA encourages applications for both sole editorships and editorial teams.
The deadline for applications is November 1, 2016.
Interested candidates are encouraged to review the online application guidelines as well as the more detailed publication-specific calls for applications.
The ASA does not typically pay for office space, teaching release, or tuition, but alternative models of funding may be possible as long as the impact on the overall cost for ASA support is minimal (e.g., institutional support for the managing editor or editorial assistant salary/stipend could allow for use of the ASA budgeted funds for course release or tuition).
Because the support offered by different institutions varies widely, interested candidates are encouraged to contact Karen Gray Edwards, ASA Director of Publications and Membership via e-mail ([email protected]), as necessary to ensure the feasibility of her or his application. At this point in the submission process, letters of support from deans or other appropriate institutional officials are recommended but not required. Specific arrangements with a potential new editor and with that individual and his or her institution will occur after the ASA Council makes a selection and the ASA Secretary, with support from the ASA Executive Officer, works out the final agreement with this candidate.
