Students can become members of the ASA by joining online or emailing a paper application request to firstname.lastname@example.org. Membership runs on a calendar year only-from January 1 to December 31. Membership dues are not prorated for renewals or applications received after January 1.

Advance Your Career:
- ASA Sections. ASA's 53 special-interest sections include medical sociology, social psychology, racial and ethnicity minorities, and sex and gender. Sections provide information through newsletters, web sites, listservs, and sessions at the ASA Annual Meeting. They provide great opportunities to network, meet leaders in the field, learn about current section research, as well as learn about grant opportunities, book announcements, job openings, and other pertinent information.
- Call for Papers. ASA provides individuals an opportunity to present their research at a national level at ASA's Annual Meeting. The annual Call for Papers alerts members of this opportunity.
- ASA's Annual Meeting. Here is an opportunity to meet leaders in the field, learn more about sociology and cutting-edge research at our sessions and seminars, meet potential employers/employees at the Employment Fair, and receive peer recognition for your research by presenting a paper or poster.
- Publications. ASA's hundreds of publications provide information about curriculum development, department management, teaching techniques, careers in sociology, handling the job market, sociology departments, etc.
- JSTOR. Only members of ASA have access to JSTOR, which is a database of ASA's journals from the inaugural year to the last volume published up to five years ago. Here is another opportunity to increase your knowledge and research resources with access to these journals.
The Honors Program:
The Honors Program provides undergraduate sociology students a rich introduction to the professional life of the discipline. Exceptional sociology students from throughout the country and the world come together for four days and experience all facets of the ASA annual meetings. By participating in the Honors Program, students develop long-lasting networks with other aspiring sociologists while their sponsoring departments have a chance to "showcase" their own quality programs and their most outstanding students.

Through its Minority Fellowship Program (MFP), the American Sociological Association (ASA) supports the development and training of sociologists of color in any sub-area of sociology. Funded by a generous contributions from various aligned associations and member donations, MFP seeks to attract talented doctoral students to ensure a diverse and highly trained workforce is available to assume leadership roles in research.
