Section on Latino/a Sociology

The Latino/a Sociology Section is an important and vital component of the American Sociological Association (ASA). For the past decade, the Latino/a Section has played an instrumental role in increasing the presence and visibility of Latinos/a in the ASA and in the field of sociology. Each year, the Section organizes a series of professional, academic, and social/cultural activities to generate discussions about the problems and issues impacting our community and to promote the contributions and culture of the Latino/a population in the United States.

The Latino/a population in the United States continues to grow at a significant rate. Today, Latinos/as are the largest minority group in the continental US. Moreover, this increasing population has made significant contributions to the economic growth and development of this country. Further, Latinos/as have played an instrumental role in the nation’s history, culture, and politics. The Latino/a Sociology Section has played a key role in generating and promoting knowledge, research, and expertise regarding the role and contributions of Latinos/as in US society, generally, and in the field of sociology, specifically.

This webpage has been designed to keep you informed about the academic and research contributions of our Section members, upcoming events and activities in conjunction with the ASA annual meeting, employment opportunities in the field, and other related issues. Please feel free to send us an e-mail, make a recommendation, or provide additional relevant information that we can include in our webpage.
