ASA Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant Program
Deadline: November 1
The ASA DDRIG program will support theoretically grounded empirical investigations to advance understanding of fundamental social processes. Up to 25 awards of a maximum of $16,000 will be given each year. Funding for this program has been granted by the National Science Foundation.
Fund for the Advancement of the Discipline (FAD)
Deadline: December 15
The goal of this program is to nurture the development of scientific knowledge by funding small, groundbreaking research initiatives and other important scientific research activities such as conferences. Individuals who are early in their careers, as community colleges, or other institutions without research support are encouraged to apply. Collaborations with 2-year institutions are a welcome submission. Awards up to a maximum of $8,000 may be granted to the PI or PI's institution. View Past Recipients here.
Minority Fellowship Program
Deadline: January 31
The Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) is designed to support the development and training of sociologists of color in any sub-area or specialty in the discipline. MFP seeks to attract talented doctoral students to ensure a diverse and highly-trained workforce is available to assume leadership roles in research. The annual stipend for each award (August 1 - July 31) is $18,000. Additional financial support is detailed on the Minority Fellowship Program page.
Howery Teaching Enhancement Fund
Deadline: February 1
The Carla B. Howery Teaching Enhancement Fund provides small grants to support projects that advance the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) within the discipline of sociology. The grants can support an individual, program, department, or committee of a state/regional association. Multiple grants of up to $2,500 may be awarded.
Student Forum Travel Awards
Deadline: April 1
Through collaboration with the Student Forum Advisory Board, funds are available to defray the costs associated with attending the ASA Annual Meeting. Each award is $250 for students looking to attend the meeting, and approximately 45 awards may be granted.
Annual Meeting Travel Fund
Deadline: April 1
Application Available: March 15
The Annual Meeting Travel Fund is available to help sociologists who would otherwise not be able to attend the Annual Meeting. Multiple awards may go to sociologists within the U.S. as well as international scholars. Awards are $500 plus a waiver of registration fees.
ASA Community Action Research Initiative Grant (CARI)
Deadline: August 31
The Community Action Research Initiative grants are for projects that bring social science knowledge and methods to bear on addressing community-based problems. Applicants must be sociologists seeking to work with community organizations or community action initiatives. Grants are for up to $3,000 of direct costs.
Sorokin Lecture Grants
Deadline: Rolling basis
Grant funding is available to host a winner of an ASA-wide award from the past two calendar years to deliver a lecture at a state, regional, or aligned sociological association meeting or on an academic campus. The ASA can support up to four lectures in a calendar year.
