Alcohol, Drugs, and Tobacco Award Nomination Calls

Junior Scholar Award

We are now accepting nominations for the 2020 American Sociological Association’s (ASA) Section on Alcohol, Drugs and Tobacco (ADT) Junior Scholar Award. We present this award annually in recognition of research contributions within the scientific discipline, such as publications and grants; an outstanding publication may be sufficient for a recent Ph.D. The candidate should also demonstrate an independent line of research. Eligible candidates must have defended their doctoral dissertations within five academic years prior to the annual meeting at which the award is made. In accordance with ASA policy, all award nominees must be current members of the ASA and ADT section. You may become a member of the section to be considered.  We encourage self-nominations. Winner will receive the award at the ADT Reception for the ASA annual meeting in San Francisco in August 2020. Please send nominations and a CV to Tanya Nieri (TanyaN@ucr.edu) by March 1, 2020.

Senior Scholar Award

We are now accepting nominations for the 2020 American Sociological Association’s (ASA) Section on Alcohol, Drugs and Tobacco (ADT) Senior Scholar Award. We present this award annually to an established scholar who has made significant contributions to the scientific discipline and has provided service to the ADT section. In accordance with ASA policy, all award nominees must be current members of ASA and the ADT Section. You may become a member of the section to be considered. We encourage self-nominations. Winner will receive the award at the ADT Reception for the ASA annual meeting in San Francisco in August 2020. Please send nominations and a CV to Victor Lidz at lidzvic@gmail.com by March 1, 2020.

Distinguished Scholarly Paper Award

We are now accepting nominations for the 2020 American Sociological Association’s (ASA) Section on Alcohol, Drugs and Tobacco (ADT) Distinguished Scholarly Paper Award.  This award recognizes the author(s) of an outstanding article published in the past two years (2018-2019) in the area of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco.  In accordance with ASA policy, all award nominees must be current members of the ASA and the ADT section.  You may become a member of the section to be considered. We encourage self-nominations. Winner(s) will receive the award at the ADT Reception for the ASA annual meeting in San Francisco in August 2020. Please send a PDF copy of the article with a brief comment on the manuscript's merits and its contribution to the field of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco research to Dina Perrone (Dina.Perrone@csulb.edu) by March 1, 2020.  

Bruce D. Johnson Graduate Student Paper Award

We are now accepting papers for the 2020 American Sociological Association’s (ASA) Section on Alcohol, Drugs and Tobacco (ADT) Bruce D. Johnson Graduate Student Paper Award. We present this award to a paper authored by a student currently enrolled in a graduate program. A paper may be co-authored by two or more students, who would share the award. Papers co-authored with faculty are ineligible. Papers should be of typical manuscript length, about 25-35 double-spaced pages. In accordance with ASA policy, all award nominees must be current ASA members and members of the ADT section. You may become a member of the section to be considered. We encourage self-nominations. Winner(s) will receive the award at the ADT Reception for the ASA annual meeting in San Francisco in August 2020. Please send a letter of nomination and a copy of the paper (PDF or Word format) to Hannah Knudsen (Hannah.Knudsen@uky.edu) by March 1, 2020.
