Who is eligible for a press badge?
Complimentary press registration to ASA’s Annual Meeting is provided to qualified reporters who are employees of or freelancers on assignment to locally, nationally or internationally recognized print, broadcast, or online media outlets with a demonstrated history of reporting on relevant issues. We encourage registration in advance, although onsite applications for press badges will be considered.
At the time of registration, journalists will be asked to provide contact information and information about the media outlet for which s/he is covering the Annual Meeting. Journalists will also be required to indicate in writing that they have read and agree to the conditions of press coverage for the Annual Meeting (see below). ASA reserves the right to refuse press registration to any individual.
In order to receive a press badge onsite, credentials must be presented. Acceptable credentials include an official press badge, a business card from a news media outlet, or an original copy of a masthead with the journalist’s name on it. Freelance journalists should provide a letter of assignment from a media organization or, if they intend to submit articles to media outlets for consideration after the meeting, clips of previous stories that have been published or aired on topics germane to sociology or the ASA.
Conditions of press coverage
Reporters covering the Annual Meeting must register in the ASA press office upon arrival to receive a press badge. Press badges must be worn at all times. Reporters failing to wear a badge will be asked to do so. Should the reporter be unwilling to meet that request, s/he will be asked to leave the meeting.
Press access is open to any sessions that are open to all meeting registrants.
Audio and video recording of meeting sessions and events by the press is not permitted. Still photography is permitted with advance permission of the association.
