Annual Graduate Sociology Enrollments by Gender

This graph tracks fall graduate enrollments in
sociology gender over an 19-year period between 1990 and 2009. During
this time, the gap between male and female enrollment in graduate
sociology widened considerably. Between 1999 and 2009, women almost
consistently represented about 64 percent of the share of graduate
sociology enrollments while males represented about 36 percent. By 2008,
female graduate enrollments in sociology were nearly 40 percent larger
than what it was in 1990, while in contrast, male enrollment was about 5
percent less.
