Research on Sociology

Research on Sociology includes information about sociology as a discipline and the work that sociologists do. The ASA Research Department gathers data on careers of sociologists and the status of sociology education, from high school through graduate school.

In this section you will find:

  • Research Briefs. Reports and presentations from the ASA Research Department that cover careers for sociologists, faculty salaries in sociology and other disciplines, diversity among faculty and students, resources for sociology departments, and facts about the ASA membership.
  • Trends in Sociology. Charts and tables on degrees awarded, gender, race and ethnicity, resources for sociology departments, facts about the ASA membership, and much more.
  • Research Projects. Some department activities are organized as projects that stretch over multiple years and usually result in published reports and/or presentations. This page provides an overview of ongoing and past projects, with links to detailed information on each.
  • Data Resources. Tools frequently used in our reports, presentations, and for our Trends in Sociology.
