Cuban-American Sociologist to Participate in the
Brookings Institution "Focus on Cuba" Event

Panel will reveal new poll results on Cuban-American perceptions on contemporary Cuba.

WASHINGTON, DC - On April 2, 2007, at 11am-12:30pm, the Brookings Institution, in partnership with the Cuba Study Group, will host a "Focus on Cuba" event featuring the release of the results of a new Cuba Research Institute, Florida International University, poll of Cuban-Americans. These poll results reveal how Cuban-Americans view the likelihood and opportunity for change in Cuba today, and how their views compare with those in 2003. This poll, as well as the results of other recently released surveys of both Cubans and Cuban-Americans, will be reviewed, and the session will include a discussion of whether the recent transition from Fidel Castro to Raul Castro has made a difference. The implications of these issues for the future of U.S.-Cuba policy will be a major focus of this discussion.

After the program, panelists will take audience questions.
