Departmental Alumni Night (DAN) Sat, Aug 14 - 9:30 - 11:30pm Atlanta Marriott Marquis The Departmental Alumni Night (DAN), now in its 37th year, is a social event held after the first full day of sessions, where attendees can connect with friends and colleagues to reminisce about graduate school days, create new coalitions, and catch up on the latest news. This traditional gathering will begin at 9:30pm on Saturday, August 14, in the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. All meeting attendees are invited to attend this event. Each graduate department of sociology in the United States and Canada are invited to sponsor a table to attract alumni and friends. Tables will be provided for sociologists in the business and industry as well as for international scholars and guests. Honorary Reception Sun, Aug 15 - 6:30 - 7:30pm Atlanta Marriott Marquis After the conclusion of the 2010 Presidential Address, all meeting attendees are invited to attend the Honorary Reception at 6:30pm, in the Atlanta Marriott Marquis to express appreciation and congratulations to President Nakano Glenn and the major ASA award recipients. Since 1984, social science departments and regional societiess have joined the American Sociological Association in co-sponsoring the annual Honorary Reception.
Universities where Award Winners have Degrees Your support enhances this event as ASA's major celebratory occasion for sociology, and it enhances the national visibility of department and institutions of higher education that have produced outstanding scholars and teachers of sociology. We have two categories to support this event. Sponsors contribute a minimum of $250; when they are especially close to the award winners, sponsors often contribute $500 or more. Donors contribute at any level their department or institution budgets permit. You will be formally acknowledged in the Association’s official printed Final Program and on the Display Board at the Reception.
Sociology departments in the Area may also Contribute The Association is pleased each year to invite departments and institutions located in the geographic area of the Annual Meeting to co-sponsor the Honorary Reception. Your support enhances this event as an ASA's annual celebratory occasion, and it enhances the national visibility of local sociology departments and institutions of higher education. We have two levels of support for this major event. Sponsors are invited to contribute a minimum of $250. Donors contribute at any level their department or institution budgets permit. All contributors are acknowledged both in the Association’s printed Final Program and visibly at the reception itself. Plan to relax after dinner, nibble a sweet or two, and meet current Fellows and MFP alumni. Attend this special event and reaffirm your commitment to the MFP Program. $25—donor; $50—sponsor; $100—benefactor Admission is by ticket only. The Minority Fellowship Program supports predoctoral training for students of color. Come and relax with friends at this benefit event for the Teaching Enhancement Fund (TEF), "Just Desserts." As the name implies, you should bring your sweet tooth along to enjoy special desserts, good coffee, stimulating conversation, and smile that all of this pleasure goes to a good cause. $25—donor, $50—sponsor; $100—benefactor Admission is by ticket only. TEFis a small grants program designed to support teaching-related projects that have long lasting and transferable impact.
