2010 Chairs Conference
Science, Liberal Arts, and the Humanities: Positioning Sociology Departments for Resilience and Success: The Pre-liminary agenda is now available in PDF format: Concept: Current economic pressures on colleges and universities, and the departments within them, are extraordinary. This year the Chairs Conference will focus on what departments can do to protect themselves during tough economic times. The conference will consider how positioning sociology programs vis-a-vis science, the liberal arts, and humanities can impact both their resilience, and their future growth potential. Based on the tremendously positive response to the new format introduced at last year's conference, the 2010 Chairs Conference will incorporate three sessions of concurrent roundtables. Each roundtable will address aspects of the general theme, ranging from how chairs can work with departments to shape programs when faculty disagree about directions, to negotiating with administrators, to tracking the career trajectories of alumni as a powerful indicator of program success. 2010 Keynote Speaker: Steven Brint
