Social Scientist Receives Presidential Medal of Freedom
President George W. Bush awarded
the Presidential Medal of Freedom,
the nation’s highest civilian award, to
economist and Nobel Laureate Gary
S. Becker on November 5, 2007. “His
pioneering analysis of the interaction
between economics and such diverse
topics as education, demography, and
family organization has earned him
worldwide respect and a Nobel Prize,”
said the President. Becker, University of
Chicago Professor of Economics and
Sociology, also won the Nobel Prize
in Economics, the National Medal of
Science, as well as numerous other
awards.
