Sociology Faculty Salaries Rank in Constant Dollars

This table shows the trends in sociology faculty salaries in constant dollars, calculated using the 2007 Consumer Price Index provided by the US Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. Between AY 1982/83 and 2007/08, full and assistant professors saw the largest increases in faculty salaries (approximately 25 to 30 percent) while associate professors and instructors experienced modest increases (19 and 13 percent, respectively). Overall, average sociology faculty salaries in constant dollars for AY 2007/08 remain below inflation, meaning that purchasing power has not increased. The highest three faculty ranks are slightly above inflation while the lowest faculty ranks were substantially below inflation.
