Labor Force Participation Rates for Doctorate Social and Behavioral Scientists, 1993 - 2003

The labor force participation rates for behavioral and social science PhDs dropped between 1993 and 2001. The highest drop was for sociologists. This is likely because of increased retirements for all these fields. Sociology PhDs, however, enjoyed a modest 1 percent increase in labor force participation in 2003, the strongest gain among these fields.
