Employment Service
UPDATE: We are sorry, but the Employment Service is totally full and ASA stopped accepting new Employer registrations as of July 30, 2007.
NOTE TO PREREGISTRANTS: Interviewers and candidates are strongly encouraged to bring their own laptops to the Annual Meeting. Service users that have laptops with wireless cards will be able to access the online module while they are in the Employment Service areas, including the Interview Room. The Employment Service check-in areas will have a few computer terminals for use during service hours by registered ES users who do not have their own equipment.
The annual ASA Employment Service assists sociologists and prospective employers by providing convenient opportunities for employers and job seekers to meet in a neutral, monitored environment for initial short interviews during the Annual Meeting. Last year in Montréal, 85 employers listed 136 positions, including 17 openings outside academia. 303 candidates registered with the service, and nearly 1,400 screening interviews were scheduled.
Last year marked the inauguration of a new online service with an interactive scheduling calendar for setting up interview appointments. Based on feedback from users, some changes and improvements were made for 2007.

Annual Meeting preregistrants may fill out the online forms to post their information. Job seekers should fill out the Candidate Profile, indicate their availability for interviews during the Annual Meeting, and if desired, upload their resumes. Interviewers may review candidate profiles and resumes and set up interview appointments.
All initial interview appointments arranged through the Employment Service must take place on-site within the designated service areas at the Hilton New York. This requirement is a safeguard for both interviewers and candidates.
 Online Employment Service Module
Preregistration closed on July 11, 2007. Those seeking jobs may register on-site at the ASA On-Site Registration counters on the 2nd floor Promenade of the Hilton New York.
Interviewers and candidates are also encouraged to bring their own laptops with them so that they can more easily maintain communications during the Annual Meeting. The on-site service will provide some computer terminals for use by registered ES users during service hours.
