  Hotel Employee Lockout

Hotel Employee Lockout

By unanimous vote, on Monday, November 15, 2004, the ASA Council adopted the following statement:

In accordance with previous actions by the ASA in support of fair labor practice and the welfare of workers, the ASA Council urges that the lockout of hotel employees by fourteen San Francisco hotels be ended immediately and supports efforts by the mayor of San Francisco and other city leaders to end the lockout.

The ASA has just concluded the largest Annual Meeting in its history in San Francisco hotels, with almost 6,000 members and other national and international attendees. As a professional and scholarly association, we are deeply concerned about the lockout of workers who are overwhelmingly people of color and women and about ensuring fair labor practices in communities to which we regularly return for our meeting.
