Fund for the Advancement of the Discipline

Co-sponsored by the American Sociological Association through a matching grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), these small grants provide seed money for innovative research and small conferences to explore new topics in sociology. [more]

Student Travel Award The Student Forum of the American Sociological Association administers student travel awards to the ASA Annual Meeting. We anticipate granting approximately 25 awards in the amount of $200 each. These awards are made on a competitive basis and are meant to assist students by defraying costs associated with attending the Annual Meeting. [more]
Travel Grants for ISA Meeting The American Sociological Association expects to receive a $45,000-grant from the National Science Foundation to provide travel funds to U.S. sociologists to attend the XVI World Congress of the International Sociological Association (ISA) in Durban, South Africa July 23-29, 2006. Community Action Research Initiative Sponsored by the ASA Sydney S. Spivack Program in Applied Social Research and Social Policy, these small grants encourage sociologists to undertake community action projects that bring social science knowledge, methods, and expertise to bear in addressing community-identified issues and concerns. ASA Congressional Fellowship Sponsored by the ASA Sydney S. Spivack Program in Applied Social Research and Social Policy, the Congressional Fellow serves for six months as a member of a staff office in the U.S. House or Senate. The Fellow will learn the workings of Congress and will share the uses and contributions of sociology with the placement site. [more]
ASA Teaching Enhancement Fund ASA Small Grants Program. These grants, given to an individual, a department, a program, or a committee of a state/regional association support projects to enhance the teaching of sociology that will have systemic and enduring impact on the teaching and learning of sociology. Minority Fellowship Program Supported by a grant from the National Institute of Mental Health and sponsored by the American Sociological Association, this longstanding training grant supports pre-doctoral graduate education for sociology students. [more]
