Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) Advisory Panel

MFP Advisory Panel Charge:

The Minority Fellowship Program Advisory Panel provides advice to the Executive Office about the MFP Program, which is funded through an NIMH Training Grant.  The committee generally meets twice each year: once in winter, and again briefly during the ASA Annual Meeting in August. The MFP fellowship is a pre-doctoral training program intended for underrepresented minorities primarily interested in mental illness issues and research. This training program is supported by a grant from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Division of Mental Disorders, Behavioral Research and AIDS. Sociological research on mental illness and co-morbidities are germane to core areas of emphasis within NIMH, specifically, and the National Institute of Health, generally. Research on the social dimensions of mental illness includes attention to prevention and to causes, consequences, adoptions, and interventions. The Minority Affairs Advisory Panel (MAP) is composed of 9 people plus a Council Liaison and an ASA Staff Liaison. Recommendations for replacements are made by the Executive Officer and are presented to Council in August for approval.
