The American Sociological Association is pleased to announce the release of several items in conjunction with the Centennial celebration of the Association's founding.  These items include:

  1. A History of the ASA, 1905 - 1980, by Lawrence J. Rhoades
  2. A History of the ASA, 1981 - 2004, which continues from where the 1981 Rhoades History left off.
  3. A special volume on the History of American Sociology, edited by Craig Calhoun.
  4. A volume entitled Plural Histories of Sociology produced by the ASA Section on the History of Sociology.

In addition, ASA member Gale Largey will premiere his newest documentary on the life of Lester Ward, sociologist and the first President of the American Sociological Society in 1906, at the August 2005 Centennial Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.  Largey has also produced a 19-minute video on the founding of the Society and the men and women who have served as leaders through the years.
