ASA Advocates for Science-based Expertise
in Iowa Supreme Court Case
The American Sociological Association joined prominent social science academics and other science associations as signatories to the amicus brief in Varnum v. Brien, a marriage equality case pending before the Iowa Supreme Court.
The brief supports the trial court’s decision to exclude five of the defendant's purported expert witnesses as unqualified to opine on relevant social science topics.
