| The American Sociological Association collects a variety of demographic and descriptive data about its members. The data are collected within the members-only section of the ASA web site as well as on the ASA membership application. Other than the required basic contact information, members have control over what information they choose to provide. |

| ASA uses these data to communicate directly with members as well as for staff to better provide benefits and services to the membership. Contact information is also made available to other ASA members. Members have control over what information is made available. The ASA also makes name and mailing address information available to third parties who are identified as providing information deemed likely to be of interest to the ASA membership. |

| ASA only uses credit card information to process payments authorized by the individual. The ASA website uses encryption technology, such as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), to protect your personal information during data transport. SSL encrypts ordering information such as your name, address and credit card number. |
