Regional Spotlight Sessions

The local organizing committee, co- chaired by Jean-François Côté  (Université du Québec à Montréal) and Greg Nielsen (Concordia University), together with their colleagues Eran Shor and Poulami Roychowdhuri (McGill University), Marcel Fournier and Valérie Amiraux (Université de Montréal), Amy Swiften (Concordia University) and Victor Armony (Université du Québec à Montréal) have put together several Footnotes articles about some of the unique historical and contemporary features of Montréal in particular, but also developed a number of comparative regional spotlight sessions that are designed to invite all ASA members into a dialogue on Quebec, Canada and U.S.A. issues of inequality and cultures of exclusion. While the theme organizers and presenters mostly originate on the Canadian side of the border, all of the eight sessions also include U.S.A. sociologists grappling with similar questions. Each session is designed to provoke speculation toward continental and global levels, and provide occasions for meetings colleagues from across the border.
