Ethics

ASA members are bound by the association’s Code of Ethics which sets forth the principles and ethical standards that underlie sociologists’ scientific and professional responsibilities and conduct.

ASA’s Committee on Professional Ethics (COPE) is responsible for promoting ethical conduct by sociologists.

COPE policies and procedures include the responsibilities of the Committee on Professional Ethics, the general operating rules of COPE, and the policies and procedures related to the submission and resolution of complaints of violations of the Code of Ethics.

ASA also has a meetings code of conductethics disclosure policies, an awards revocation policy, and a policy on removal from leadership positions.
